[S5E10] Aunt Nauseam

Helen agrees to be the lawyer for her sister's divorce. But the two end up fighting over whom their mother favored and Jake, not being able to handle the fighting, leaves. Aunt Amy, who is very similar to Daria, is called to mediate, but is sucked into the fight as well. Daria and Quinn are affected by the fighting; leading Daria to wonder if she should be with Tom and Quinn to wonder if she and Daria will end up like their aunts have.

[S5E10] Aunt Nauseam

As relationships all around continue to crumble, Daria finally calls in the cavalry: Aunt Amy. When Amy arrives, Daria catches her up on the situation, and Amy in turn helps Daria realize that Tom wasn't trying to interfere; rather, Tom was trying to be supportive. Amy then wades into the middle of Helen and Rita's battle... and gets caught up in it herself. Fed up with the whole situation, Daria and Quinn start imitating their mom and aunts arguing with each other, which finally shows them just how silly they were acting, and they make up with a group hug (for which Amy blames Daria, of course). The same-dress situation between Stacy and Tiffany is also resolved, in a weird way: Stacy accidentally ruins Tiffany's dress by spilling grape juice on it, and offers to give Tiffany hers to show how sorry she is; Tiffany, overcome with emotion, hugs her friend, which in turn gets grape juice on Stacy's dress. Other situations are resolved as well: Daria and Quinn watch Gone With the Wind together and promise to never become like their mom and aunts, Daria apologizes to Tom for brushing him off all week, and Brian and Erin reconcile in Switzerland.

Finally, there's a bit of Jim slander on the internet these days, saying he's ultimately a bad guy. Yes, he can be dickish, but I think he's redeemable. Take this episode: He saunters up to Michael's awkward solo karaoke duet and saves him yet another embarrassment in a night full of humiliations.

Toby is back and Michael is ON one. Jim buys Pam the house and she's just...OK...with it. This has been discussed ad nauseam in the pockets of the internet that want to decide that either Jim or Pam is actually bad, but it is a, um, big decision to buy a damn house without your partner's input. In the end, it's a sitcom (and kind of a rom-com) and you've just got to take a leap of faith.

If an episode like "Finale" is a sledgehammer of emotions to the chest, then "The Dundies" is more of a series of precision strikes. It's an episode composed of the small moments that made the show so special. The sort of moments I've talked about ad nauseam throughout this piece.

I usually try to avoid saying negative things, and it looks like this topic has been discussed ad nauseam, but that last scene was appalling. Absolutely, disgustingly, face-twistingly appalling. I honestly feel unclean having watched it. Just horrible stuff. 041b061a72
