Savage Vow By Willow Fox

My fiancé is the anti-Prince Charming.... Mateo Villani is darkness wrapped in Armani. He's a six-foot-tall, ruggedly handsome savage, a notorious gangster who's bedded half of Manhattan...and now he's my fiancé. My father betrayed me, signing my life away to the cocky bastard whose personality is colder than a block of ice. Mateo crushed my ambitions when he slid his ring onto my finger. He stole my life away, and now he's determined to mold me into a dutiful mob wife. But I have news for him: I obey no one.

Savage Vow by Willow Fox

We're known for our savagery. We run New York City. We control every inch of it, and anyone that gets in our way is executed. I protect the people from con artists and thugs like the cartel. But I'm not a good guy. I loathe thinking of myself as a vigilante. And did I mention that my little sister tried to put me behind bars? When a young woman's car breaks down in the rain, I'm feeling overly generous. I recognize her, she's a nurse from Steele Concierge Medical, at least that's what she wants me to believe.

Then the squire wanted them all to take a little brandy withhim. A decanter with glasses, and a sugar-bowl with a half-dozenspoons bristling from its mouth, were set on the table, and the whole crowd were invited to partake. A bucket ofwater and a gourd were brought, and each one helped himselfto the apple-jack, sugar, and water. The late prisoners were notforgotten. When they had been unbound, the justice himselfpoured out a stiff dram for each, and congratulated them ontheir escape. The change from seemingly savage cruelty tosympathy and good will was instantaneous, and to Servosseinexplicable.

IT was, perhaps, well for the accomplishment of her purpose, that, for some time after setting out on her perilousjourney, Lily Servosse had enough to do to maintain her seat, and guide and control her horse. Young Lollard, whom theservant had so earnestly remonstrated against her taking, added to the noted pedigree of his sire the special excellencesof the Glencoe strain of his dam, from whom he inheritedalso a darker coat, and that touch of native savageness whichcharacterizes the stock of Emancipator. Upon both sides hisblood was as pure as that of the great kings of the turf, andwhat we have termed his savagery was more excess of spiritthan any inclination to do mischief. It was that uncontrollabledesire of the thorough-bred horse to be always doing hisbest, which made him restless of the bit and curb, while thenative sagacity of his race had led him to practice somewhaton the fears of his groom. With that care which only thetrue lover of the horse can appreciate, Colonel Servosse hadwatched over the growth and training of Young Lollard, hoping to see him rival, if he did not surpass, the excellencesof his sire. In every thing but temper, he had been gratifiedat the result. In build, power, speed, and endurance, thehorse offered all that the most fastidious could desire. Inorder to prevent the one defect of a quick temper fromdeveloping into a vice, the colonel had established an inflexiblerule that no one should ride him but himself. Hisgreat interest in the colt had led Lily, who inherited all herfather's love for the noble animal, to look very carefullyduring his enforced absences after the welfare of his favorite.Once or twice she had summarily discharged grooms whowere guilty of disobeying her father's injunctions, and hadalways made it a rule to visit his stall every day; so that, although she had never ridden him, the horse was familiarwith her person and voice.

The ridge which the chase was following ran about midwaybetween the road on which Lily was, and another into whichthis led about half a mile from where she had stopped. Justbefore reaching this road, the land sloped sharply towards it,the ground was more open, and, beyond the road, fell away to awide bottom, stretching down to a creek with thick willowmargins and occasional patches of dense reeds. It was thisshelter that the chase was evidently striving to reach. 041b061a72
